13th International Symposium on Aeromonas and Plesiomonas in Wroclaw

The ISAP in Wroclaw has been scheduled anew!Updated

New Announcement from the Organizers - ISAP 2023

As SARS-CoV-2 (“coronavirus”) is now in retreat  and back-to-normal policies are implemented worldwide, the Organising Committee has now scheduled the 13th International Symposium on Aeromonas and Plesiomonas (originally planned as ISAP 2020) to be held in Wroclaw, Poland in 2023.

Please observe, the  new date for the meeting: June 21-23, 2023 Updated

and Plesiomonas

In the years since the 1st International Symposium on Aeromonas and Plesiomonas on September 5-6, 1986 in Manchester, England, the scientific community has seen significant increase in the number of species identified and included in Aeromonas and Plesiomonas genera. The perception of these bacteria has evolved from a causative agent of important fish diseases and opportunistic human infections to the status of “emerging” pathogens among humans. The evidence for Aeromonas species as a credible cause of diarrhea with a severe impact on pediatric and geriatric populations has been steadily mounting. Plesiomonas is a relatively new genus with many aspects of structural and biological features still to be uncovered. It comprises P. shigelloides bacteria that account for over 10% of all acute travelers’ diarrhea cases and have been implicated in outbreaks of gastroenteritis. The scientific sessions during the ISAP2022 in Wroclaw will cover all aspects of Aeromonas and Plesiomonas: molecular biology, phylogeny, evolution, taxonomy, ecology, virulence factors and pathogenesis.

Meet the team

Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology & Experimental Therapy

Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of the Polish Academy of Sciences excels in research concerned with immune system development and function comprising the biological chemistry and genetics of macromolecules and nanostructures involved in immunological processes related to proteins, glycans, glycoconjugates and ligand-receptor interactions. Development of antibacterial vaccines with defined immunochemical properties and protective activity is among its premium research topics. Integrated Laboratory of Experimental Oncology and Innovative Technologies pursues investigation on biological activity of drugs, their metabolites and biotransformation leading to innovative technologies. The Phage Therapy Unit carries out an experimental phage therapy of patients with antibiotic resistant infections. The Hirszfeld Institute combines premium research and education with best clinical practice. The extensive PCM collection of bacteria complements the expertise and infrastructure.
Institute was established in 1952 by the Polish Academy of Sciences and professor Ludwik Hirszfeld, famous Polish immunologist and microbiologist, was the founding father and the first director.
